Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
What Is A Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Loss of one’s home, of a loved one, accidents, murders, and the rest are just some of the many possible causes of post traumatic stress disorders that people nowadays are suffering from. PTSD or post traumatic stress disorder is a kind of anxiety disorder that takes on another level, resulting from a very traumatic and life-impacting experience such as the death of a family member, a loved one, the loss of one’s finances, and the like. People who suffer from PTSD would usually feel that their security is threatened or they feel utterly helpless due to the traumatic experiences they went through before. What most people do not understand about this kind of disorder is that everybody, from the people who had firsthand experience with the traumatic situation or event to those who merely witnessed it from afar can have post traumatic stress. It isn’t only limited to the soldiers who go to battle or the firefighters who save people from tumbling buildings.
Overcoming Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
So how does one get over his or her post traumatic stress disorder? Here are some steps on how one can learn in coping with anxiety as severe as this:
· The first thing that you should do or that any person with PTSD should do is learn to accept that he or she is going through such a disorder and seek help for it. The sooner the disorder is confronted and treated well, the quicker and better the chances of coping with anxiety are.
· Avoid trying to numb yourself or push back the traumatic experiences and memories because this will only make the disorder even worse. The best way is to confront your fears and anxiety and learn how to overcome it through therapy or treatment sessions with a professional therapist or psychiatrist.
· Family therapy is also a good way to treat PTSD and overcome since the disorder affects both the patient and his or her family. Through family therapy, family members and other loved ones can learn to understand what is really going on with you and can help you in your road to recovery.
· Medication is sometimes needed and prescribed to PTSD patients in order to provide relief and to lessen the symptoms of the disorder.
